Korean post office phrases: send a parcel, confirm address and track it
Send a parcel in Korean by naming the item, confirming the complete address and contents, and using the current official service for restrictions and tracking.
Start with destination and parcel type
At a Korean post office, the conversation usually starts with what you want to send and where it is going. 이 소포를 보내고 싶어요 is a straightforward way to say that you would like to send this parcel. Adding 해외로 tells the clerk it is going abroad.
You do not need a long speech to get started. A clear destination, the written address and a short description of the contents give the clerk something concrete to work with. This lesson follows those first questions, then shows how to ask about the weight and tracking.
Learn the labels used at the counter
| Korean | Working meaning | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| 소포 | parcel | mail item |
| 편지 | letter | mail item |
| 보내다 | send | sender action |
| 받다 | receive | recipient action |
| 우편번호 | postal code | address field |
| 배송 조회 | tracking | status check |
소포 is a parcel; 편지 is a letter. 보내다 means to send, while 받다 means to receive. These words help distinguish what you are doing from what the recipient will do later.
우편번호 is the postal code in the address. 배송 조회 refers to checking the delivery status. A postal code identifies part of the destination; a tracking number identifies the particular shipment. Keeping those two numbers separate makes a follow-up question much easier to understand.
Ask about price, delivery time and tracking
| Pattern or sentence | Natural meaning | Point to notice |
|---|---|---|
| 이 소포를 보내고 싶어요. | I want to send this parcel. | state the task |
| 주소가 맞는지 확인해 주세요. | Please check whether the address is correct. | verification request |
| 무게가 얼마나 돼요? | How much does it weigh? | measurement question |
| 배송 조회는 어디에서 해요? | Where do I track it? | official tracking channel |
주소가 맞는지 확인해 주세요 asks the clerk to check whether the address is correct. The -는지 part introduces the thing you want checked; 확인해 주세요 adds a polite request to verify it. Showing the written address alongside the question is helpful when unfamiliar names are involved.
무게가 얼마나 돼요? asks how much the parcel weighs. 배송 조회는 어디에서 해요? asks where you can check delivery progress. The second question is useful after arranging the shipment, when you have a receipt or tracking details to keep.
Send one parcel from start to finish
| Speaker | Korean | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Customer | 이 소포를 해외로 보내고 싶어요. | I want to send this parcel overseas. |
| Staff | 내용물과 주소를 확인해야 합니다. | We need to check the contents and address. |
| Customer | 보낼 수 있는지 먼저 확인해 주세요. | Please first check whether it can be sent. |
| Staff | 네, 현재 조건을 확인하겠습니다. | Yes, I will check the current conditions. |
The learner wants to send a parcel abroad. The clerk explains that the contents and address need to be checked. 보낼 수 있는지 먼저 확인해 주세요 asks whether sending it is possible before proceeding.
This exchange covers the initial check, rather than the whole transaction. A real visit may continue with questions about the service, price, packaging or paperwork. When an answer contains an unfamiliar word, asking the clerk to show it in writing can make the next step clearer.
Confirm current restrictions at the counter
A language example cannot tell you whether a particular item can be mailed to a particular country today. Restrictions, available services and delivery estimates depend on the shipment. At the counter, the actual contents and destination are the important details to explain.
Keeping the receipt makes later questions easier. If you need help with delivery progress, show the tracking information and ask 배송 조회는 어디에서 해요? You can then follow the service or website the clerk identifies for that shipment.
Correct likely misunderstandings
| Avoid | Use or check | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 요금을 블로그에서 확정 | 창구와 공식 사이트 확인 | rates change |
| 주소 일부 생략 | 우편번호와 국가까지 확인 | missing field can delay delivery |
| 배송 조회 = delivery guarantee | 상태 정보로만 사용 | tracking is not a promise |
An address check and a delivery-status check answer different questions. 주소가 맞는지 asks whether the destination has been written correctly. 배송 조회 asks what has happened to the parcel after it enters the delivery process.
해외로 means “to overseas” or “abroad”; it does not name the country. In a real conversation, the clerk will still need the destination. The short phrase opens the request, and the address supplies the precise information.
Try it in a familiar situation
You arrive with a parcel for a friend abroad. How would you open the conversation and ask the clerk to check the written address? After sending it, which question would help you find where to track it?
